If you want an increasing sequence of numbers to appear in an Excel spreadsheet column, you can type it yourself, but this can quickly become tedious and even potentially error-prone as your spreadsheets get more rows.
You can also type only the first couple of numbers that you want in the first two rows, and then have Excel fill the rest of the numbers down the column. You can use the Row function in Excel formulas to access the row number of any particular cell. For example, Row(B5) will give you the numeric result '5' and Row(A1) will give you the number '1'. Using Row() with no arguments will give you the row of the cell itself.
To use this tool to number rows, make the first entry in the column the row function called upon that cell itself. For example, if you have a header row as the first row in your spreadsheet and wish to number subsequent rows in column C, make cell C2 '=Row()'. Then, click the cell and grab the fill handle in the bottom right corner with your mouse, dragging the formula down the spreadsheet.
You can also use additional formula functions to generate arbitrarily numbered rows, such as replacing the number with the corresponding letter of the alphabet or using only even numbers for numbering purposes. Generally, if you drag or sort the rows numbered with the Row function, they will remain correctly numbered, since the function will still refer to the current row, whatever it may be.

I am printing 6 payment slips in 1 A4 paper from excel, all 6 slips has same information like Name, payment date and etc.. while there is a cell called Serial number. I want to print serial number in each 6 cells of the same A4 paper.
For example on cells C4, C 10, C14 and C18 I want serial number while i print it should show.
I will print 100 A4 paper at once which means I should have at least 600 serial numbers.
Please help.

You could use a formula like
=row()
in each of the cells. That will print the row number. Assuming the slips are all in different rows, that will give you a unique number for each slip.
